Bridlington Links Golf Club

Ladies section

LAST Thursday it was Lady Captain's day at Bridlington Links.

Lady Captain Janet Fallas held an individual stableford competition and gave a superb array of prizes. The day stayed dry and afterwards Janet treated all competitors to a meal. All the ladies thoroughly enjoyed the day which was a credit to Janet.

Prizewinners: Putting competition Sandra McNulty, nearest the pins 4th Izzy Wilkinson, 14th Chris Mitchell, 17th Rachael Shrimpton. Best front 9 Mary Giles, best back 9 on a countback Joyce Southwick.

Stableford competition 1st Joan White 32pts, 2nd Julia Sumner 31pts, 3rd Kath North 29pts, 4th Pam Walker 27 pts, 5th Sandra McNulty 26 pts.

Cowling Trophy

ROGER COWLING was the first division winner in his own trophy when he recorded 39pts on Sunday. Roger scored on every hole in a very consistent performance to beat Roger Porter into 2nd place on the back 9. Roger Porter had a blistering front 9, scoring 24 pts.

Division 2 and the Cowling Trophy winner was Andy E Smith who scored a stunning 43pts. Playing off 15 hcp, Andy gross birdied holes 3 and 8 on his way to victory, finishing 3 clear of second placed Bryn Arnold. Bryn scored 40 pts playing off 20 hcp and managed 6 nett birdies in his round.

Division 3 was headed by the flying Roy Porter as he managed 40pts with halves of 19 out and 21 back. Roy secured the win with a fine 4 nett 2 on the 18th hole to stay ahead of Don Anderson who with 39 pts collected 2nd prize.

Twos were scored by A.Elliott, B.Cowling, B.Comerford, G.Patterson, R.Wilkinson and R.Hudson. They collect 9.50 each.

Sunday is Captain’s Day with times from 7am. Prize giving after and a free carvery meal for all competitors.

Tuesday, June 16 saw the gentlemen members extending an invitation to the ladies section for partners in the Edgington Trophy – a mixed foursome Stableford competition.

Winners of the trophy were Kath & Rich Leeson with 38pts with Shirley & Eric Hall in second place with 33pts. Third and fourth respectively were Mary Sunley & Dave Copley, 33pts and Hilary Jewitt & Ray Trufit with 33pts.

Sunday morning the gentlemen played for the Wheelhouse Trophy which was a 4 BBBB Stableford competition.

The major difference with the competition was that an existing 4 ball team had to separate into 2 pairs and the pairs were then mixed randomly to ensure different playing partner pairs. Following completion of the round the scores of the original team pairs were then aggregated. Winners on the day with an aggregated score of 86pts were the team of Rob Graves, Arthur Wintler, Lennie Robinson, & John Wellings. Second 1 point behind the winners were Kenny Miller, Pat O’Hare, Steve Barker & Ray Trufit, and a further point behind in third place was the team of Bill Howson, Steve Brown, Allan King and Flamborough Junior Captain, David Sellars

Wednesday, June 17, Jane Blake Trophy: Winner Heather Bingley 38 points, runner up Katherine Leeson 36. Other scores: 35 Denise Shippey, Sue Towse; 34 Ann Reeve.

Medal – Sunday, June 21: Division One Winner Denise Shippey 87-19-68, runner up Carla Pawson 98-23-75.

Division Two winner Maggie Thompson 105-27-78.
