YORK LEAGUE: Scarborough 2nds' promotion bid falters with York defeat

Scarborough 2nds lost ground in their bid to win consecutive promotions as they lost to rivals York 3rds at North Marine Road.

Second met third in Ebor Division Two as York travelled to Scarborough 2nds and extended their gap with a comprehensive win.

Neil Elvidge top-scored with 50 as Scarborough were all out for 158, Mark Cowell (37) and Josh Mainprize (33) also added to their total.

Despite taking seven York wickets in reply, the visitors made it safely to 161-7 to take 30 points.

Elsewhere in Ebor Division Two, Pickering 2nds (151) lost to Dringhouses (155-2), and Malton & Old Malton (153-8) held on for a draw against Londesborough Park (193-8).

An unbeaten 69 from Edward Rosa helped Selby close the gap on fourth-place Flixton as the visitors won by three wickets in Division One.

Michael Dennis top scored with 58 in a total of 182 for the home side as they were undone by excellent bowling from Michael Smales (4-34) and Joe Romaniw (4-36).

Richard Malthouse (31) and Matt Nesfield (25), also contributed with the bat, while Jamie Nesfield also earlier took 3-61.

Malton & Old Malton stay second after they beat Pocklington by eight wickets.

Michael Linsley took 5-48 and Thomas Bumby 3-2 as the visitors were dismissed for 108, Neal Jackson top scoring with 38.

It then took the home side just 18 overs to reach their target with skipper Shaun Harland finishing 82 not out off just 46 balls which included 10 fours and five sixes.

Beverley Town 2nds climbed up three places to sixth after beating Sewerby by 49 runs.

Ian Pratt (63no) led the hosts to a total of 185-7, and then three wickets each from Peter Parnaby (3-22) and Gregory Whyley (3-23) sealed their sides third win in as many weeks.

Hornsea came off second best as they hosted east coast rivals Bridlington losing by 87 runs.

Harry Burnhill (76) , Nick Tennant (43), Sam Edmundson (49no) and John Major (56no) helped build the visitors a total of 257-7, and then Major took 3-18, and Ben Ibsen 4-31 as the hosts could only reach 170 before being bowled out in reply.

In the Premier Division, half-centuries from Mark Wilkie (56) and Simon Mason (55) guided Sessay to victory at Driffield Town.

The visitors made 180-5 in reply to the home sides total of 179 all out, winning with more than 14 overs to spare.

Earlier Stephen Langstaff had taken 3-46 whilst Tom (43) and Will (45) Norman had provided more than half of their sides’ total.

The day’s tightest finish came at Mill Lane where visitors Beverley Town beat Pickering with just five balls to spare.

The hosts looked to have done enough when Chris Nichols (62) and David Greenlay (39) got them to 231-8, that despite three wickets each from Bradley Graham (3-57) and Sam Welburn (3-50).

Olly Grantham made 44 in the reply, but it was an unbeaten 85 from Harry Gamble which turned out to be the match winning performance.
