BRIDLINGTON Cricket Club’s promising young batsman Rob Middlewood has been awarded the Paul Cooper Memorial Junior Batting Trophy for his fine performances in the Bridlington 2nd team’s recent season in the Scarborough Beckett League.

Middlewood’s fine season, in which he scored 354 runs at an average of 44, also included his maiden century, an innings of 106 not out against Wykeham, having narrowly fallen short earlier in the year with 93 against Cloughton.

He is the third Bridlington player to win the trophy in recent years, others being Philip Elliott and Steven Janney.

Middlewood’s father Andy was delighted with the award because he played with the late Paul Cooper for many years at Ganton CC.
