Steve Lount hits out for Bridlington 2nds against Sewerby 2nds last season.

THE 2012 cricket season will have plenty of local bragging rights up for grabs, with no fewer than 20 derbies on the fixture lists.

Once May arrives, there is at least one derby head-to-head almost every weekend, and that is before you add in potential cup draws and Evening League matches.

The clash local cricket fans will be looking forward to most will be Bridlington 1sts against Sewerby 1sts, with Sewerby returning to York Senior League Division One after cruising to the Division Two title last season.

They square up for the first time at Dukes Park on Saturday, June 30, and meet again on the clifftops as the season nears its end on Monday, August 27.

Bridlington start their season with a trip to Driffield 2nds on April 21, while Sewerby kick off by travelling to Folkton and Flixton.

Fixtures end with Bridlington hosting Pickering and Sewerby away at Hull Zingari.

The club’s second teams will meet in Beckett League Division A twice in a matter of weeks in mid-season

There will also be plenty of local interest in Derwent Valley League Division B.

Bridlington 3rds and Flamborough 2nds will vie for honours, but there is the added intrigue of Sewerby’s third and fourth teams competing in the same league.

Flamborough 1sts’ Beckett League Premier Division campaign begins at Flixton 2nds, while promoted Grindale start at Scalby in Division B.
