Brilliant year for Sewerby
SEWERBY Cricket Club chairman Vince O’Grady welcomed members, friends and guest, Bridlington Free Press sports editor John Edwards, to the club’s annual dinner and presentation evening.
2012 was again a successful season, with the club capturing three trophies. The following successes were celebrated:
The First XI were runners up in the York and District Senior League Division One under the captaincy of Ben Dobson and were promoted to the Premier Division – the highest standard of cricket the club has ever achieved
The Third XI won the Derwent Valley Welford Cup under the captaincy of Sam Coultas as well as being promoted to Division One after finishing second

After the meal, gifts were presented to John Blythe, John Wilson and Aldred Bostwick, for their services as umpire and scorers
The presentations to individuals started with that of The Chairman’s Cup for most wickets for the first XI in the York Senior League to Adie Long (40 wickets).
The club president Ken Saul then made the following presentations:
The Jamieson Cup for most First XI runs in the York Senior League: Ben Dobson (709 runs)
The Second XI Batting Cup for most 2nd XI runs: Chris Briggs (270 runs)
The Second XI Bowling Cup for most 2nd XI wickets: Mark Pallister (28 wickets)
The Third XI Batting Cup for most 3rd XI runs: Sam Coultas (460 runs)
The Third XI Bowling Cup for most 3rd XI wickets: Ernie Moorehouse (26 wickets)
The Langton Fourth XI Batting Cup for most 4th XI runs: Ryan L Bartram (251 runs)
The Langton Fourth XI Bowling Cup for most 4th XI wickets: Calvin Roche (26 wickets)
The Most Improved Player Award: Third XI captain and opening batsman Sam Coultas
The Crofts Cup for the Fielder of the Year: Russ Robinson.
The Player of the Year Shield, a prestigious award given to the player who has amassed the most points during the season earned by scoring runs, taking wickets and catches – irrespective of which team he plays for – was won by Russ Robinson (147 points)
John Edwards then made presentations for the Players’ Player of the Year for each team and to players who were receiving club caps.

The Fourth Team’s Player of the Year: John Searby
Club Caps, for outstanding performance on the field of play, were awarded to:
First team player: Chris Chapman.
Third team player: Sam Coultas
Fourth team players: Calvin Roche and John Searby
Lively entertainment was then provided by vocalist impersonator Tony Fletcher.
After the comedian, the raffle, organised by Russ Robinson and friends, was drawn and answers to a taxing but fascinating quiz were provided by Ryan Bartram.
Vince O’Grady finished by thanking Shaun Acton and Ruth O’Grady for organising the dinner and also the Expanse staff for their fantastic service and food.
