County FA stalwart dies

EAST RIDING football has been saddened by the news that well-respected ERCFA chairman Mike Rawding died after a long illness.

Many people who have been involved with football in the Bridlington area for a long time, especially with Bridlington Town and Bridlington Trinity, will have known Mr Rawding since his days with North Ferriby United, who he coached and managed in the 70s. He also managed Bridlington Excelsior for almost two years.

He visited Bridlington several times in recent years, in his capacity as chairman of the ERCFA, for presentations and when county representative sides or county cup games were played at Queensgate.

Bridlington Free Press Sports Desk staff extend deepest condolences to his widow Joyce and their sons.

As a tribute to Mr Rawding here is a resume of his impressive career in football.

Player: During his playing career Mike played for Anacaster FC (Lincs) from 1952-55; RAF Hemswell Bomber Command 1955-57; St Pauls College 1957-60; Haltemprice AFC (East Riding) 1960-65; Ainthorpe OB (East Riding) 1965-72 and also represented the ERCFA at Senior level.

Referee: Qualified as Class III 1958; refereed School & Inter-District matches and officiated as linesman at the England Schoolboys U15 v West Germany U15 in 1968.

Coaching: Preliminary Award 1960; Full Badge 1968; Hull SFA Representative Team 1960-88; ERCFA Senior/Youth Representative Teams 1973-87; Manager/Coach North Ferriby United 1973-78; Hull City Minors (U16) 1978-85.

Administration: Member of Hull Schools' FA 1965-70; Elected to ERCFA Council 1980 - 2005; Elected as ERCFA Representative to the FA Council 1989 - 2005; Elected to FA National Game Board 2001; Elected to FA Board 2004.
