Club’s £60,000 building opened

RESIDENTS of Burton Agnes have celebrated the opening of a new energy-efficient Sports Club Building.

The building was paid for through a £150,000 fund made available as part of the Caythorpe Gas Storage project by Centrica Storage Limited.

Centrica representatives officially opened the Sports Club Building, which took approximately five months to complete and cost £58,750.

The new facilities will offer local people a base for sports clubs, groups and will no doubt become a hub for countless community-based activities to take place.

The timber-framed building has been constructed from sustainable materials and has been well insulated to ensure energy efficiency.

Martin Scargill, from Centrica Storage, said: “Centrica Storage is committed to supporting the communities in which it works. I am delighted to have opened the Sports Club Building, a facility which will benefit the residents of Burton Agnes greatly.”

Clive Neale, chairman of Burton Agnes’ Sports and Bowls club, said: “The Sports Club Building is a phenomenal asset to our village.

“We hope to set up a youth club in the hall, a local history group and host many coffee mornings. Additionally, the building will be available for hire and we have already taken a couple of bookings.

“From myself, and on behalf of the residents of Burton Agnes, I would like to express my sincere thanks to Centrica Storage for granting us the funds to be able to build this facility - which will no doubt become a central meeting place for our community.”

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony took place at the new Sports Club Building, which is next to the existing sports pavilion, in Rudstone Road.

Centrica Storage Limited acquired the Caythorpe Gas Storage site, near Bridlington, in 2008 with plans to convert the site into an onshore gas storage facility.
