Bridlington School Sports College took a team to the Costello Stadium in Hull to take part in the East Riding Athletics Trials
The event gives students the chance to be selected to represent their area and all the Bridlington athletes competed well and made their teachers very proud.
The team consisted of, from Year 8 – Dewi Roberts (javelin), Cody Harrop (javelin), Stuart Jones and Jordan Bates (800 metres), Ceri Gibson (1,500 metres) and Conor Spencer (100 metres); from Year 9 – Jonathan Morritt (long jump), Charlie Scaife (high jump), Charlie Hendlesby (shot putt), Lara McLeod (long jump), Chance Wedge (1,500 metres) and Lee Rollinson (100 metres); from Year 11 – Jacob Day (high jump) and Scott Palmer (discus).
It was a good experience, especially for the students who had never competed at Costello Stadium before, and some achieved personal bests in their events.
Lee Rollinson, Charlie Scaife and Scott Palmer all won their events and have been selected for the East Riding Athletics Squad.
l Four athletes from Bridlington School Sports College performed well enough at the East Riding Athletics Trials to represent the East Riding at the Humberside Championships at Costello Stadium.
They competed against the best athletes from the Hull area, North East Lincolnshire and North Lincolnshire.
Charlie Scaife (high jump) and Scott Palmer (discus) were both runners-up in their events but these were notable achievements as they are both new to athletic competitions and Charlie was also carrying a leg injury.
Lee Rollinson won his 100 metres heat and also cruised to victory in the final to become Humberside champion with a personal best of 12.2 seconds.
Chloe Smyrk did a fantastic throw of 37.76 (a personal best) to become Humberside champion in the discus event for the second year running.
Chloe will compete for Humberside in the English Schools Championships in July.
Bridlington School Sports College wishes her well for the championships and also wishes Lee, Scott and Charlie good luck in all their future competitions.
Coach Sarah Green said: “Keep training and you will achieve.”
