AFTER almost 25 years of playing table tennis at Hilderthorpe School the committee of the Bridington Table Tennis Club thought now was the time to look for a new venue, the main reason being the difficulty and danger involved with the removal and the return of the equipment to the storage area behind the stage.
Table tennis club secretary Barry Clifton was asked to find a possible new venue and visited many local church halls in and around Bridington, but none were suitable. As a final hope he contacted Alan Stow chairman of the Bridlington Club for Young P
eople, and a site meeting was arranged. The facility and storage area available was perfect and Alan was very enthusiastic that a new sport could be added to the club’s facilities.
Following a number of visits by the Table Tennis club committee and members, agreement was reached between both parties and the Bridington Table Tennis Club will now meet at the Bridlington Club For Young People, Thorpe Street, when the new season opens on Monday September 1 7.30-9.30pm.
Since the former Bridlington Table Tennis league folded three years ago and joined with the Table Tennis Club, membership has increased very encouragingly. A number of members have indicated their interest in a new league being formed.
This will be discussed at the annual general meeting at the new venue on Monday, September 1, so it is important that all present members and any interested new players attend. The meeting should last no more than 45 minutes leaving over one hour of play on the night.
