BRIDLINGTON won the toss ‘ a good start’ asking Flamborough to bat on a slow damp wicket at Dukes Park.
After a cautious start by the Boro batsmen they started to dominate the bowling.
Richard Riley bowled well for Brid but could find no support from the other bowlers.
Simon Leeson was dropped on 46 and from then on smashed everything everywhere. He went on to complete a spectacular 100.
Three more catches went down as the Brid bowlers plugged away, and Leeson went on to score an unbeaten 170. A truly spectacular innings well batted.
He was well supported by Jon Artley scoring 67. Flamborough finished on 266/1 with the game effectively over by tea.
The Brid batsmen did well scoring 172/9 in reply with Briggs, Emmerson, Lount and Young all making good contributions.
Thankfully Brid won’t bump in to Simon again until July when with a bit of luck he will be on holiday.
As for Flamborough they had three younger members in the team – John Major, David Sellers and Sam Waines – and all played very well and contributed to Flamborough getting nine Bridlington wickets for 172, just falling one point short of getting maximum points, the most successful bowler being David Sellers 3/34.
An excellent all round performance from Flamborough and they will be hoping captain Andrew Leeson can keep this squad of players and not struggle to pick a team as in the last two seasons.
