With only 160 runs scored in 75 overs and for the loss of 20 wickets, only the closeness of the finish gave any life to this game.

Rudston were asked to bat first and were soon in trouble, r
educed to 35-5, not due to the potency of the bowling but more to the dreadful wicket which offered only low bounce or no bounce. Only a partnership between Dale Bower (10) and Ben Gregory (16) showed any promise until James Knaggs came to the crease and made a mockery of the troubles the higher order batsmen had endured.

Knaggs finished on 25 including a big, big 6 over the longest boundary. Despite the low score, Rudston took a little confidence into the tea break knowing that Nafferton would have to face the same struggle for runs.

With early wickets falling, this confidence grew and Nafferton could only manage 2 runs per over for most of their innings.

Gordon Beevers (4-27) bowled well in tandem with Mark Holtby (3-10) and when he was replaced by Dale Bower (3-16) victory was within sight.

A late eighth wicket surge saw Nafferton within 7 runs of victory, but the heroic return of Holtby saw 2 wickets fall and Rudston's unbeaten start to the season was saved at the death.
