Being a Newcastle United supporter is never easy and 2009 not only marks the 40th year since the club's last major trophy, but was also the year they dropped from the Premier League to the second tier of English football for the first time in 16 years.
That said, Newcastle United supporters have maintained their position as one of the best over the years and there are few clubs around the country who boast an average home attendance of over 48,000 last season.
A group of six Newcastle fans based in Driffield have got together to set up NUFC East Yorkshire, the East Yorkshire Newcastle United Supporters Group.
The main aim of the group is to bring together any Newcastle supporters living in East Yorkshire to have a drink together and talk about all things ‘toon’ related.
If there is enough interest, NUFC East Yorkshire would like in the future to look at arranging travel to games, in a similar way to the local Leeds United supporters group.
Meetings will be held on the first Tuesday of every month and the first informal meeting of the group is to be held on Tuesday, July 7 at the Star Inn, Driffield.
All Newcastle fans welcome.
