The weather was fine for the first complete fixture list on Saturday and many of the matches were close encounters.
Champions, Rudston and Kilham enjoyed their second win of the season but not without a good deal of anxiety. Their batting faltered against Nafferton’s bowling of M Sawyer who took 5 for 24 and they ended with a mediocre score of 83 all out. However, their bowlers came to the rescue and D Beevers took four wickets and M Holtby and D Bower three each as Nafferton were rattled out six runs short.

Another close match was that between Hull Zingari and Hornsea. Zingari totalled 127 with N Davidson hitting 69. Hornsea’s I Webster was not out 37 when the winning run was hit with the last pair at the crease.

Middleton’s match against Newport was just as close. Newport scored the same score 127 all out. John Nessfield then hit 45 for Middleton but they ended up two runs short with the last pair together.

For Newport M Phillips took 5 for 32.

Old Hymerians had a good win at North Dalton with Geoff Kean hitting an unbeaten 77 in their score of 176 for 6 - a total that proved 50 runs too many for Dalton.

Andrew Dixon of Flamborough hit his second 50 of the season against Brandesburton, however John Atkinson (83) saw Brandesburton home by four wickets.

In Division Two, South Dalton beat Skidby by five wickets with M Ash taking six wickets and P Green scoring 31 runs.

Driffield found the Walkington opening bowlers, Elliot and Ford, very accurate and runs were hard to come by. However Chas Burdass hit a patient half century and lucky Les Artley chipped in with 25 to give a total of 141. Walkington though, had little trouble in passing this with L Webster (62) and C Cook (40), being top scores. For Driffield young Matty Hopper took 3 for 39.

Hessle’s J Thompson could hardly have believed he ended on the losing side against Leven. He took 7 wickets for 50 then smashed 70 with the bat, yet his side still ended 10 runs short of Leven’s score of 115 - it’s tough for some!

In Division Three South Cave completely overwhelmed Newport winning by 126 runs. R Nichols hit 92 for them before Bromley caused a collapse from 34 for 1 to 38 all out and ended with 7 for 15.

Hornsea’s Nick Frazer hit 89 not out in their victory over Hull Zingari and Yapham beat Hutton Cranswick by 19 runs.

Mention must be made of the previous week’s result of the Yapham v Hutton Cranswick match when Yapham’s 14 year-old leg spinner T Cornwell took 4 wicket for 8 runs - a promising start to his career!
