This see-saw match between two evenly matched teams could have gone either way and featured not one but two centurions.
With the threat of showers around Hymerians won the toss and asked Boro to bat first.
Openers Mel and Andy Dixon had put on 30 comfortable runs before the first shower halted proceedings for a short while.
Mel Dixon, already carrying a knee injury, tweaked it again and retired hurt prompting a change in the batting order.
This brought Graeme Harvey to the crease when play began again, to partner Andy Dixon, though not for long as the opener was caught out off the bowling of Bolton for 26.
Harvey began brightly getting underway with a flurry of boundaries but Rob Traves struggled at the other end falling LBW to Kean for a brace.
Craig Readhead, Boro’s Mr Consistent, joined Harvey with the score on 61/2 off 20 overs and they set about rebuilding the innings. And rebuild the innings they did putting on a fine unbroken stand of 139 in the final 20 overs.
Readhead played the support act hitting a vital 39 not out including five fours and a six but it was Harvey’s afternoon as he blazed his way to his maiden century. His 104 not out included 13 fours and three maximums.
Hymerians got off to a bad start after the tea interval with opener Potton caught and bowled in Duncan England’s 2nd over.
Lowe, a century maker in the earlier game of the season between these two teams was dismissed for 25 making the score 42/2.
Back came the visitors though with Kean and Appleyard putting on 82 for the third wicket in good time before the rains came again. After another half hour break the teams returned to the field and Tony Gilson immediately took the wicket of Appleyard.
The dangerous Khan then helped Kean quickly take the score to 166 and the visitors were in the driving seat needing only 33 off eight overs with seven wickets in hand. Back came Boro with the slow bowling of Rob Traves who, with the help of Gilson, claimed three wickets for seven runs, including the vital wicket of Kean, who was finally dismissed for a fine 107, which included 15 fours.
Bolton then briefly threatened to steal the game for Hymerians hitting two boundaries in Traves’ penultimate over but with wickets still falling Boro were hanging on.
Under darkening skies five runs were required off the final over but the visitors could manage only two giving the home team a cracking victory by the narrowest of margins.
Gilson ended with 3-60 and Traves 3-25.
Flamborough 2nds’ last Evening League match of the season against Barmston again fell foul of the wonderful British weather.
