The new season was keenly anticipated by the Agnes boys in the weeks leading up to this first encounter of 2008.
Having had a couple of nets and a get-together, the only concern they had was perhaps the retirement of the skipper and the weather. What joy therefore when the sun shone brightly and the game commenced albeit on a damp and slow pitch.
The Agnes boys performed well as a team and as always, Joe Edmundson proved the danger-man taking four wickets.
The Driffield batsmen out-played the bowling and the turning point was when they passed 80 runs, a number expressed as “a good score on that wicket.”
In their response at the crease, the Agnes boys each played in the same manner, a bit too quick to strike at the ball which slowed each time it hit the wicket.
Two things seemed to be missing from the batting. One was the wise words of experience normally expressed by the former skipper in his often direct manner and the other an absence of the most talkative of their team members, ring any bells?
