Bridlington73/3

BRIDLINGTON had a very easy win at Pocklington to continue their good start in the York and District senior league.

Steve Garton again won the toss and Pocklington were invited to have a bat on a green wicket.

Stephen Winterbottom gave Brid a great start having Chaplin lbw in his second over. It was brother Ian who completely wrecked the innings however taking the next five wickets as Pocklington collapsed to 29/6 in the 14th over. Ian Winterbottom’s figures at this stage 5-17.

Things continued to go Brid’s way as Casey Rudd and Sam Edmundson chipped in with wickets and Ian Winterbottom took his sixth as Pocklington were bowled out for 68.

When Bridlington batted after the tea interval they suffered an early set back when Nick Tennant was brilliantly caught for a duck.

Casey Rudd and Richard Lount then took the score into the 20s before both were out, Rudd caught behind for 11 and Lount bowled for eight.

This brought the Winterbottom brothers together and they quickly saw Bridlington to their target both hitting three fours and a six as the necessary runs were scored in only just over 14 overs to give Bridlington an emphatic victory.

This week Bridlington entertain Crayke at Dukes Park and will be hoping to keep their good run going and keep up with the league leaders.

Match ball sponsored by the Balmoral Hotel and Restaurant Forte Terrace.

Cockspur Cup

Bridlington135/7

Elsecar139/2

BRIDLINGTON made a quick exit from the National Cockspur Cup trophy when they travelled to the Barnsley area to play Elsecar who had a very strong side including several pros.

Ian Swallow the former Yorkshire player captained the side which also included Leroy Weekes another former Yorks 2nd player and well known through cricket circles.

On a damp afternoon credit to the umpires and both sets of players for sticking it out in sometimes light rain to get a game reduced to 30 overs played and save Bridlington a return journey next week.

Steve Garton elected to bat first and Casey Rudd batted through for a hard grafted 50no and other useful contributions came from Richard Lount, Sam Edmundson and Barry Rudd.
