Bridlington Cycling Club's time trial season is under way with the first event, a Hilly 10 mile race, which was held on April 29.
A good turnout of 10 riders braved the cold and windy night with the prevailing easterly making it a difficult ride to the finish. Mel Blackford proved to be the strongest winning in a time of 24:47, to beat long time adversary Dave Compston into sec
ond place by 39 seconds with Andy Askwith a further 16 seconds back in third.
Only 9 seconds further back was Martin Cockerill in fourth place with Stewart Pickard fifth in 26:11.
On a night when most riders were much slower than their personal bests, Jeff Thorley produced an excellent ride just one second slower than his PB to claim joint sixth place with Adam Yates in a time of 29:35, just beating Mick Brown into eighth in 29:44 and Graham Lonsdale ninth in 30:06.
New member and the only junior rider in the race, Chris Hutchinson, produced a very respectable time for his first ever event by finishing tenth in 38:28.
In other events, Dave Compston has been showing some excellent form by winning a League of Veterans road race held at Halifax and then claimed second place in a road race at Stokesley, only being beaten by a former multiple British all round time trial champion.
