Dukes Park
Bowling Club

DUKES Park’s round robin merit was played on Sunday, April 20, when 32 pairs were drawn in eight blocks of four pairs.

Each pair played three games, the winning pair of each block qualifying for the quarter finals at which stage Dukes Park were represented by four pairs.

Ron Marshall and Dennis O’Neill (DP) over 17 ends qualified for the semi’s winning 21-15 against Geoff Watson and Mick Jessop (Whitby). Jackie Stapleton and Ian Mott (DP) over 12 ends qualified for the semi’s winning 21-10 against A Standing and Kevin Garside (DP).

Andy Deighton and Chris Bielby (DP) qualified for the semi’s over 14 ends winning 21-15 against Ernie and Sheila Pearce (Hunmanby). Rex and Cynthia Jennison (Westgate) over 15 ends qualified for the semi’s winning 21-11 against Rex and Edna Trickett.

Andy and Chris secured a place in the final winning 21-12 against Ron and Dennis. Jackie and Ian booked their place in the final winning 21-6 against Rex and Cynthia.

Jackie and Ian, as in their previous game, gave Andy and Chris little room to manoeuvre and over the 10 ends bowled ran out worthy winners 21-8. Cloudy and cold conditions throughout the day didn’t deter the competitors from displaying a high standard of bowling on two well maintained greens.

The president Mrs Barbara Bulmer thanked the competitors, also the competition stewards Mrs Sue O’Neill and Mrs Marlene Webb on a well organised merit, to the ladies supervising the canteen, the measurers and scorers, organisers of the raffle and the many members helping to make it a very successful event, finally offering commiserations to Andy and Chris and the presentation of the trophies to Jackie and Ian. Congratulations.
