THE NHS emergency care tsar and one of the country's leading maternity professors have been taking a look at Bridlington Hospital.
Their findings will be included in recommendations for its future use which Scarborough and North East Yorkshire Healthcare NHS Trust will be revealing at its board meeting in June.
It will include decisions about the future of the hospital's services, including minor injuries, cardiac and maternity.
Emergency care tsar Sir George Alberti, who is national director for emergency access, and Professor Sabaratnam Arulkumaran, Professor and Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St George's University of London, paid a visit to the hospital last Wednesday.
Sir George is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Reforming Emergency Care strategy, with the aim of helping organisations rethink the way access to emergency care is delivered.
He is also focusing on improvements the way health communities co-operate and communicate with each other to improve the patient's overall experience of emergency care.
They met a wide range of staff, including Bridlington physicians Abu Nasar, Mohammed Ilyas, Mike Pond and Anwar Memon, obstetrics and gynaecology consultant Mark Noble, matron manager Helen Geraughty, a team of senior midwives at the hospital, as well as the trust's medical director Ian Holland.
They also met with the trust's new chief executive Iain McInnes, who was appointed last month.
After the visit, Mr McInnes said: "It's very pleasing that we have such nationally-respected figures visiting the trust so that they can see first-hand the facilities and care that we are offering.
"They'll be able to offer valuable advice and contribute to the consultation, helping make sure that we make the best and most appropriate use of Bridlington and Scarborough Hospitals.
"We are planning for Professor Alberti to visit Scarborough Hospital soon and meet with a wider group of physicians."
