My compliments to all involved with the recently-placed figure of the Gansey girls on the north pier at Bridlington.

It is a welcome addition, highlighting a part of the history of fishing in the town and a fitting tribute to part of the contribution made by women to what was then an extremely hard living.

A particular tribute must be made to the artist who has produced a beautiful work of art, which I hope will be appreciated and enjoyed by many in the years to come.

For me personally it reminds me of my childhood (I remember the knitted ganseys well) and how much harder the fishermen’s life of old must have been than my parents (which was plenty risky and hard enough).
