Letter: Flypast is a chance to pay tribute

A squadron of Dakotas will take to the skies for a flypast over the Old Town's Summer Festival this year.

Regarding the announced flypast of a squadron of Dakotas during the Old Town Summer Festival, wouldn’t it be nice if they could fly over the 158 Sqd Memorial at Lisset, and give them the belated flypast they never got (by a Dakota) when the Memorial was unveiled by the Archbishop of York in 2009?

They could also pay tribute to the aircrew mentioned in your recent story, who lost their lives because of severe icing and who drowned in the Bay after bailing out. They, too, were flying Halifaxes like those at Lisset. Just a thought.
