Flamborough’s lifeboat crew was about to hit the water when coastguards finally worked out what a mystery object was.
Staff at the operations room in Limekiln Lane in Bridlington had spotted something floating out to sea. It was 300m off shore so they were unable to make out what it was.
Coastguards went to the scene just after 8.30am on Saturday and spotted an inflatable orange and black item.
The lifeboat was set to launch, but the object moved closer to the shore and turned out to be...a heart-shaped helium balloon.
