Two intrepid walkers have handed over more than £1,000 to Yorkshire Air Ambulance despite having to abandon their fundraiser when it became too dangerous to carry on.

John Benson and his nephew James Neesom attempted to climb Yorkshire’s Three Peaks in under 12 hours at the end of last month.

But as they reached the summit of the second peak – Whernside, sleet, mist and fog started to descend and combined with strong winds it was a challenge for both of them just to get to the bottom again safely.

In total they raised £1042.17 for the air ambulance which is often deployed to help bikers in road accidents.
