The manager of a Bridlington shopping centre is overwhelmed by the quality of artwork by local primary and secondary schools as part of an annual art competition.

Maria Kamper, Centre Manager at Promenades Shopping Centre, launched the competition last year, in which schools paint huge murals which are displayed in centre throughout the year.

This year, eight schools from the Bridlington region entered the competition – with the theme focused on this year’s Tour de Yorkshire event.

The public will be encouraged to vote for their favourite mural via the Promenades website and on the centre’s Facebook page.

But you will need to make your minds up fairly promptly as the deadline is tomorrow (Fri).

Maria said: “The calibre of this year’s entries has again been outstanding and it demonstrates the amount of talent the children of Bridlington have.

“I’m delighted to see more schools entering it this year – it has introduced a bit of friendly rivalry between schools and it is great to see the competition continuing to grow.

“We try to involve the local community in as many initiatives as we can and we are delighted with the response.”

The school art competition is not the only community-based initiative devised by the centre this month, with local photographers also given the chance to submit photos of the local region, with winners having their work displayed on banners in the centre.
