A spokesman said: "On arrival paramedics and Flamborough Lifeboat crew [were] caring for the casualty who had serious injury to leg/ankle.

"Due to the difficult terrain it was not safe to carry the casualty out on a stretcher so Coastguard Helicopter 912 was requested and they extracted the casualty and transferred them to Hull Royal Infirmary."

It came just hours after crews were called to two previous incidents.

The Coastguard were called to the sea, close to Bridlington Spa, to rescue a woman in distress at 10.13pm last night (July 1).

And at 5.14am this morning, crews were also in attendance at Bridlington Harbour after reports of a trapped person.

The spokesman added they were unable to locate anyone in distress.
