Two teenage sailors were towed back to beach as darkness fell after becoming stranded at sea.

Bridlingtons inshore lifeboat Windsor Spirit was launched just after 8pm on Saturday May 18 after members of the public had heard cries for help.

The lifeboats three man volunteer crew went to the aid of the two boys after they were unable to make any way with their sailing dinghy due to the light winds.

Grant Walkington, inshore lifeboat helmsman, said: “They had no radio, phone or oars but luckily they were able to make people ashore hear them.”

The dinghy was towed safely back to shore where coastguards and the boys parents were waiting.
