With Yorkshire Day upon us, we can reveal our list of the top 40 things to see and do in East Yorkshire.
For the past few weeks we have asked readers to send in their suggestions for the best attractions to visit, great family days out and secret gems in our region.
We had far more than 40 ideas put forward, but have tries to find a good mix of events and places which show East Yorkshire at its best.
There are sports venues, food and drink ideas, cultural festivals and some the area’s best-loved buildings.
Ed Asquith, editorial director of Yorkshire Regional Newspapers, said: “Many thanks to all the readers of the Bridlington Free Press, Driffield Times and Post, Beverley Guardian and Pocklington Post who took the time to get in touch and put forward their ideas.
“Unfortunately, we were unable to include every single suggestion, but hopefully our list will trigger a few friendly discussions about what should and shouldn’t have made the final 40.
“The list has something for everyone and shows what a wonderful and varied county the East Riding is.
“Many people will be aware of most of the places and events on the list, but hopefully it will inspire everyone to make a visit to somewhere they haven’t been before.
“When we launched this idea, some people said it would be impossible to find 40 places on our doorstep, but our readers made sure that we proved that theory wrong.”
As well as nominations from readers, two local MPs added their thoughts.
Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart suggested a traditional village show, while East Yorkshire MP Sir Greg Knight, a classic car enthusiast, put forward a “relaxing, meandering, picturesque drive from Bridlington to Pocklington” as one of his favourite things to do in his constituency. East Riding of Yorkshire Council and a number of tourism organisations also helped to compile the list, which concentrates on the areas around Bridlington, Driffield, Beverley and Pocklington.
The list is in no particular order, as all 40 of the inclusions deserve their place.
