GCSE student Megan Rooker has her sights set on stardom after scooping the top prize in the Yorkshire Coast’s Got Talent contest in Bridlington.
Megan, 15, now has the chance to record songs in a fully-equipped studio as well as walking away with a £1,000 cash prize for winning the talent show.
Megan, who also performed in the final with girl group Tresbelle, wowed the judges and audience with her versions of Celine Dion’s ‘At Last’ and Snow Patrol’s ‘Run’ - made famous by former X-Factor contestant Leona Lewis.
She said that she never expected to win the competition. “I was really shocked,” she said.
“I didn’t think I was going to win at all, it hasn’t sunk in yet.”
Megan, from Castleford, said that she has been singing for as long as she can remember and first took singing lessons aged seven.
“I just love performing, it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do,” she said.
“I’m inspired by artists like Beyonce, she is amazing and has such staying power. I’d love to be like her.”
Although Megan found ultimate success in the competition as a soloist, her Tresbelle bandmates are pleased for her.
Megan said: “They are really happy that I won, and my family are so proud too.
“I’ve entered a couple of competitions before but this is the most I have ever won - it’s overwhelming.”
