Members of a Bridlington choir will be taking part in this year’s Race for Life event - after performing on the day.

The All for One Choir’s Bridlington branch will sing at the event at Sewerby Hall and Gardens in June - and nine of their members will also be taking part in the race, which raises money for Cancer Research UK.

One of those is Alex Robinson, 41, who will run in memory of her friend and colleague Dianne Stanyon, who died in November of a brain tumour.

Alex, who works at Bridlington North Library on Martongate, said: “I have run the Race for Life three times but it was a few years ago now.

“I wanted to do it this year in Dianne’s memory, with the backing of her family.

“It is about raising money and awareness and taking the chance to remember someone.”

Alongside Alex will be other Bridlington choir members, as well as singers from other East Yorkshire All for One choirs who will take part on the day.

“It will be fantastic to take part alongside friends; we can support each other, or maybe drag each other round!

“We are all looking forward to performing at the Race for Life.

“There will be a lot of us and we have quite a wide repertoire so whatever we sing I’m sure it will inspire people to run or walk the course.”

The Bridlington choir meet weekly during term times at Hilderthorpe Primary School, on Mondays from 7pm to 9pm, and Alex says it is a great way to meet people and experience new things.

“It’s so much fun, and you really do make lots of friends and meet people you might never otherwise speak to,” continued Alex.

“I had never been to a proper football match before I started, but now I’ve sung twice at the KC stadium, sang at Hull City Hall and the Beverley Minster.”

To sponsor Alex, forms can be collected from North Bridlington Library.

Around 200 choir members will perform at Race for Life at Sewerby Hall on Sunday June 23.

Last year, 1514 women took part in Race for Life in Bridlington and raised a fantastic £76,000.

This year, organisers are hoping over 1600 participants to stride out and help raise £80,000.

Every hour, around three people are diagnosed with cancer in Yorkshire and the Humber, so organiser are encouraging as many people as possible to take part.
