Scouts post is back after five years

AFTER closing down over five years ago a scouts Christmas card delivery service is back in Bridlington.

Garry Trowbridge, leader of the 1st Bridlington Scouts, said: “The service is back by popular demand as so many people have asked for it to return.”

He explained that the original service which involved more scouts in the area was a victim of its own success after delivering thousands of cards to help raise funds for scout groups including camping, walking and many other outdoor activities .

“It became a bit too big to handle and it was decided if we could not provide a full service then it would be better to shut it down.

“At the moment it is just the 1st Bridlington Scouts who are running the service and just for YO15 and YO16 addresses, which is the majority of Bridlington.

“We will see how we go but if it is successful we could expand it next year,” said Garry.

The service starts today, Thursday December 1 and will operate until December 18.

The delivery charge is 20p per card to all destinations in the YO15 and YO16 areas of Bridlington.

Post collections will be from: Hevinns Off Licence, 57 Promenade, Premier Shop, 81 Sewerby Road, One Stop Shop, 40-44 Flamborough Road, Marine Drive News, 14 South Marine Drive, Danescroft Stores, Trentham Drive, Co-op, St. Johns Street, Arrow Cars, 37B Quay Road, Applegarth Court

When people drop off their cards all they need do is put 20 per car in the accompanying collection box.

The cards will then be delivered by the 45-50 members of the 1st Bridlington group, including Beavers and Cubs.

They will be accompanied by parents or a responsible adult at all times.
