A FESTIVE surprise was awaiting shoppers and youngsters at a garden centre last weekend.

Two baby reindeers accompanied Santa Claus to the Eastfield Garden Centre, Easton Road, Bridlington, on Saturday December 1 and Sunday December 2.

The deer travelled from Lincolnshire to spend the weekend entertaining children.

The North Wolds Lions group manned the Santa’s grotto, and children were queuing up all day to ask for their Christmas wishes.

Mike Sellers, secretary of the North Wolds Lions, said: “I think the children absolutely loved the reindeer. They were really small - it just goes to show that they don’t have to be very big to pull a sleigh.

“Christmas is really about children and children really enjoy meeting Santa Claus and they let us know what they want for Christmas.”

All proceeds from the grotto will go towards Lions’ charities.

Santa will be at the garden centre every weekend in the run up to Christmas from 10.30am until 3.30pm.
