A Bridlington salon has proved to be a cut above the rest after winning the coveted title of The Bridlington Free Press ‘Salon of the Year’.

More than 600 Free Press readers voted in the competition – and the winner is Shades of Hair, on Quay Road.

Owner Duncan Wilkie said: “We are all absolutely delighted! This is fantastic news! I’d like to say a huge thank you to all the girls at Shades Of Hair.

“Your professionalism and kindness is a huge credit to you!”

The salon beat off stiff opposition from 19 other local businesses who also reached the final of the competition after being nominated by readers, who voted through a mixture of postal coupons, texts and emails.

The runner up in the competition is Shades of Nature, on Main Street, Sewerby.

Promotions coordinator for the Bridlington Free Press, Sarah Harrison said: “It’s the first time we’ve run the competition, but we’ll definitely be doing it again in future years. Everyone wants to win it, because this is a very prestigious title to have.”

Shades of Hair will chose between the prize of either a banner or a trophy. Shades of Nature will receive a framed certificate.

Salon owner Duncan Wilkie said: “As a hairdresser you always want to make a client feel special and good about themselves - after all they are putting trust in you.

“Great hairdressing just isn’t enough these days and so we go the extra mile and make our clients feel relaxed and welcome.

“To have a client return time and time again to you is a great compliment.”
