It is believed to be around two-years-old, and measures around three feet long. It is thought that it could be a pet that has escaped.

Emma Harrison, of Priory Vets, said: “It came in around lunch time, and luckily the gentleman who found it keeps snakes himself so he had no qualms in picking it up.

“We believe it is a Royal Python snake and it would seem that it is an escaped pet.”

The snake will be cared for by the RSPCA, as there are not adequate facilities at the veterinary practice to home it, even temporarily.

They will be coming to collect it from the veterinary practice later today.

Anyone who may have information about the snake is asked to call Priory Vets on 01262 674085.
