The mystery of Bridlington’s Christmas Day proposal has been solved.
Following our article in last week’s Free Press Mel Halstead claimed responsibility for the romantic message that was hung on the railway bridge on Fortyfoot near the Seabirds Inn.
Mel said: “I wanted to do something different to show my commitment and give Bekz a Christmas to remember.
“It was just something to show her what she means to me and to make her feel special.
“I would like to say thank you to all my family who supported me and helped me organise the message.”
Bekz Hirst and Mel, both 22, met during the summer on a night out and were returning from watching the Christmas Day dippers when Mel’s family drew Bekz attention to the sign.
Mel said Bekz was a bit overwhelmed when she first saw the message but was delighted to say yes to a ‘life of craziness’.
