Friends of a well-loved 100-year-old woman surprised her with a party to celebrate the milestone birthday.
Dorothy Wilkins, of Ogle Road, Flamborough, was treated to celebrations at the Flamborough Day Centre on Monday 2 September, before turning 100 on Friday 13 September.
Over 30 guests attended to give Dorothy their birthday greetings, and a cake was made by a day centre volunteer.
Jean Stevenson, day centre volunteer, said: “It just went off brilliantly, it was a complete surprise. She was so choked up she couldn’t eat anything, and I had to give her some of the buffet to take home.
“She said to me ‘I wish I had known Jean, I would have got dressed up’, but she is always a very smart lady.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to pieces, she is just a lovely lady. I mean, come on, she is 100 that is an achievement in itself but she is still up on her feet and does nearly everything for herself.”
Dorothy is a member of the day centre’s Tuesday Club, which is a social group where she has made many friends.
“Everybody wanted to help organise the party,” said Jean, who arranged the surprise with Elaine Elliott and volunteers.
Last Friday she celebrated her birthday with family, who live outside the Flamborough area.
