AN INVESTIGATION is underway after a police car collided with a BMW on Kingsgate at the junction with George Street in Bridlington.
It happened shortly before 12.30pm on Sunday afternoon and the drivers of both cars, believed to be women, were left badly shaken but not seriously injured.
A local resident, who did not wish to be named, claimed that the police car had driven through a red light at about 40pm on the wrong side of the road whilst responding to an emergency call.
He described the junction as ‘an accident waiting to happen’ because the traffic lights could be difficult to see when the sun reflected off them and were obscured by leaves in the summer months.
The road was closed for several hours while the cars were removed.
Humberside Police have confirmed that the police car, which ended up wedged into a garden wall, was responding to an emergency call and that officers are now investigating to establish the exact circumstances of the collision.
Any witnesses are asked to contact humberside Police on 0845 6060222 quoting log 324 of February 13.
