A funeral service was held at the East Riding Crematorium on Monday, 29 December 2014 for Mrs Margaret Mary Warkup, of Kilham, who died at home on 15 December, 2014.

She was 88.

The service was conducted by the Rev Glyn Owen.

Margaret Mary Mewett was born in Hull on the 1st November, 1926. She had a very happy childhood. In 1947 she joined the Women’s Land Army, this is the year she met her husband to be Frank Warkup on a farm in Gransmoor. After 2 years of courting Frank and Margaret married on the 1st October, 1949 in Hull. After their marriage they moved to the North Yorkshire Moors. Margaret became the Warden of the Youth Hostel at Rosedale Bank Top. She then went on to Wheeldale Lodge at Goathland, while Frank worked on farms and forestry.

Years later they returned to the East Riding. They ran a very successful Hotel in Bridlington, and while Margaret did what she did best, which was looking after people, Frank delivered milk for Northern Dairies.

After they retired in 1992 they moved to live in Kilham. Margaret loved to go on holiday to the British Isles in the car, then later they travelled the country on coaches.

She loved knitting, embroidery, going to church and joining in the village activities. She was also very talented at writing poetry.

Margaret and Frank have celebrated 65 happy years of marriage.
