The diver who died following an incident in Bridlington Bay on Sunday has been name as 59-year-old Diane Cuthbertson from Hutton Cranswick.

Mrs Cuthbertson, who was owner and manager of the Top Stop nursery school on Skerne Road, Driffield, was airlifted to Hull Royal Infirmary where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Sources say she had been diving on a wreck off Bridlington Bay as part of a group with Filey Brigg Diving Club.

An inquest was this morning opened into her death and adjourned to a date to be set.

Police say there are no criminal investigations surrounding the death.

It’s understood that a dive boat operating in Bridlington Bay alerted the UK Coastguard just after 2.30pm on Sunday to report that Mrs Cuthbertson was unconscious but still breathing.

A spokesman for the Maritime and Coastguard agency said a male diver was taken to a hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber as a precaution.

The Flamborough RNLI inshore lifeboat also attended the incident.

Lucy Hicks of Humber Coastguard, said: “This is a very sad outcome and our thoughts are with the lady’s friends and all those who tried to help her.”
