A new group has been formed in Bridlington following on from an information evening held by anti-fracking campaigners.
Around 160 residents attended the public meeting at Emmanuel Church last Wednesday, to find out more about campaigners’ opposition to the controversial practice.
Richard Howarth of Frack Free East Yorkshire said: “Everywhere this industry goes communities are suffering the same devastating impacts - and trying to warn us not to let it happen here.
“Communities need to get informed now, so I’m delighted that so many people packed out the hall this evening, and are getting active to do something about it.”
Frack Free East Yorkshire oppose the practice because they argue fracking will lead to the industrialisation of the countryside on a massive scale, air pollution, water consumption and contamination, and earthquakes.
And on Monday (March 21) residents met again at Emmanuel Church to form a new, Bridlington based group.
At the meeting, members discussed potential roles as well as campaigning and publicity ideas.
