A funeral service was held at the East Riding Crematorium on Thursday 4 December for Mr Frank Scales, of North Frodingham, who died peacefully at home on 26 November.

He was 86.

The service was conducted by the Rev James Grainger-Smith & the organist was Mr Steven Westaway.

Frank was born at High Farm, North Frodingham in September, 1928. He was one of twins born to Lou and Frank, the 3rd and 4th of their 5 children. He attended school in North Frodingham. In 1937 the family moved to Riding Hill Farm, Nr Beverley only to return to North Frodingham to Park Farm before the end of the decade. After he left school, and in the middle of the war, Frank went to work fulltime on the family farm, he had plenty of practice at farming jobs as well as knowing all about the arable side of farming and baling at harvest time.

As a young man he enjoyed playing football and cricket for the village, he enjoyed playing snooker or going to the Young Farmers dances on a Friday night. He met his wife Grace at a dance at the Spa in Bridlington in 1959 and they married at North Frodingham Church in April, 1962. They moved into Park Farm after his parents moved out to number 76 Main Street in North Frodingham. They went on to have 3 children David, Anne and Denise.

Frank loved life on the farm, he loved walking round the fields with his children and nothing was too much trouble for his family. He loved his dogs Scamp and Ringo and he enjoyed listening to Michael Holliday, Russ Conway, Perry Como and Val Doonican, he also enjoyed supporting Hull City and taking the family out for days out at the seaside.

After Frank and Grace left the farm and moved to Cross Lane where he invested his energy into the garden there, producing lovely roses and chrysanthemums as well as tending his extensive vegetable patch.

Frank also loved spending time with his grandchildren who he adored.

He will be greatly missed.
