East Yorkshire MP Sir Greg Knight has welcomed employment figures just released which show the number of people unemployed in East Yorkshire is continuing to fall.
The official figures show the total number of people on Jobseeker’s Allowance in East Yorkshire is now 879 which is 407 lower than the same time last year and 55 fewer people than were claiming just one month ago.
Youth unemployment has also fallen, dropping from 315 in August last year to just 180 now.
Sir Greg said: “This is real progress in the local economy but more importantly it is progress in hundreds of peoples’ lives as they join the workforce – some of them for the first time – and participate in Britain’s economic recovery”.
He added: “It shows that the Government’s long-term economic plan is working for the people of East Yorkshire.”
