FAMILY and friends have been shaken by the death of a 25-year-old Bridlington man – who may have died from meningitis.

Heating engineer Austin Brian Reeve, 25, was found dead by his girlfriend the morning after he visited Bridlington Hospital’s GP Access Centre, complaining of a fever, nausea, headache and back ache.

Humberside Police investigated Austin’s death and prepared a detailed file for the coroner.

His devastated father Brian Reeve, 53, said: “They saw a GP who told him to return home and take some paracetamol and go to bed. The following morning his girlfriend, Tracey, found him dead in bed. He had died in the night.

“She is a broken woman by this. They had just set up home together in a house in Sewerby Road.

“They hoped to spend their lives together.”

Mr Reeve, of Watson Avenue, said he was told a possible cause could be meningitis.

“We have since been tested for it. I understand the police are making inquiries about what happened,” said Mr Reeve.

An inquest into Austin’s death has already been opened and adjourned to a later date.

Mr Reeve described Austin as a fit and healthy young man.

“He never smoked and only drank in moderation and used to go to the gym. He was very fit. He really enjoyed extreme biking and took part in events in Dalby Forest near Pickering and had been to France with others on an extreme biking trip,” said Mr Reeve, who works as a window cleaner in the Bridlington area.

Mr Reeve and his wife Christine moved from Bradford to Bridlington with Austin when he was just seven years old.

He went to Hilderthorpe School, then Bridlington School, before starting an apprenticeship with Acorn Heating Services in Quay Road, where he worked until his death on January 3.

Simon Kitchen, owner of Acorn Heating Services, said he and Austin’s work colleagues were shocked by his death.

He had worked for Mr Kitchen for more than nine years and, after serving his apprenticeship, had qualified as a heating engineer.

Mr Kitchen said: “He was extremely popular, full of fun and very professional at his job.

“We had lots of customers ringing and calling into the showroom to say how good he was.

“His girlfriend Tracey is staying with us at the moment. She is extremely upset and at the moment does not want to go – continued on Page 3

back to the house they had just moved into.”

Brian Reeve and his wife are now divorced and Austin’s mother now lives in Nottingham.

He has a sister, Anna, 24, who lives in Bridlington a step sister, Nicola, and step brother, James, 14, who lives with his father and his partner Julie.

Hull coroner’s office released Austin’s body to the family last week and they have now been able to arrange his funeral, which is due to be held today (Thursday) at 1pm at East Riding Crematorium at Octon.
