A ‘NASTY and violent’ stabbing in a Bridlington street left a man with a punctured lung.
The victim, a 22-year-old local man, was attacked by three men wearing hooded tops as he crossed the road close to the junction of Hastings Walk and Carnaby Avenue at around 2.20pm on Monday.
He was left in the street suffering from head injuries and a serious stab wound to his chest, but managed to make it to his home nearby from where the emergency services were contacted.
He was then rushed to Scarborough Hospital by ambulance.
His attackers are believed to have jumped in a vehicle and fled the scene in the direction of Thornton Road.
The police helicopter was launched to search for the suspects, but at the time of going to press, no arrests had been made and police are urging members of the local community with any information about the assault to come forward.
Leading the investigation, Det Sgt Tom Napier of Bridlington CID said: “We suspect that someone will know who is responsible for this.
“It is a nasty, violent assault which appears to be a targeted rather than a random attack and if anyone has got any information at all, or has seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area, we would urge them to contact the police as a matter of urgency.”
Up to seven police vehicles attended the scene and cordoned off parts of Carnaby Avenue and Hastings Walk on Monday afternoon.
Officers have been carrying out extensive house to house enquiries and Det Sgt Napier said: “We believe three men were involved, two white men and one black man.
“Their height range is between 5ft 7in and 5ft 11in and we believe they were wearing hoodies and tracksuits.
“Obviously people have given us different accounts and as yet nobody has been identified, we are trying to establish the facts.”
He added: “The victim has suffered a serious injury – a puncture wound from some sort of knife or other sharp implement – and we believe that someone has got to know who has done it.
“Again, we would urge them to come forward.”
The first suspect is described as about 5ft 7in tall with a broad build and was wearing tracksuit bottoms and a grey hooded top with its hood pulled up.
The second is described as a white man, aged between 18 and 22, approximately 5ft 7in tall, with a slim build.
He had blonde spiked hair and was wearing a navy blue hooded top and tracksuit bottoms.
The final suspect is described as a white man, of slim build, approximately 5ft 6in tall and was wearing a sports-style jacket with the hood up and navy blue tracksuit bottoms with a white stripe along the side.
Anyone with any information about the assault should contact Humberside Police on 0845 6060222 quoting log 368 of August 29 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
