A man has died after his body was recovered from Bridlington harbour.

A fisherman made a call to the Coastguard, at just before 8am on Sunday 31 January, reporting something in the water near Bridlington harbour.

RNLI volunteers from Bridlington launched after a request had been received from Humber Coastguard. The inshore lifeboat Windsor Spirit and its crew of three made their way to the scene about 100 metres from the harbour entrance.

Inshore crewmen Jamie Mchale and Pete Jones swiftly pulled the casualty out of the water and tried to revive him. The crew continued their efforts as the boat quickly made its way back to the beach.

Once ashore the crew handed over to paramedics and ambulance crews who carried on treating the man and transferred him to Scarborough General Hospital.

Despite best efforts by all, at 9.28am the man was pronounced dead.

A file is being prepared for the coroner.
