Young disabled swimmers make a big splash

DISABLED children are making a real splash at Leisure World.

Youngsters with disabilities have been taking part in specially tailored swimming lessons at the centre and were recently presented with certificates for completing the first stage of the Swimming Teachers Association's Rockhopper Awards.

The Rockhopper series consists of nine progressive swimming levels each with its own certificate and woven badge – and seven Bridlington children have already passed level one.

The lessons, held on a Saturday morning between 10.05am and 11.00am are led by Sharon Mummery, who is pleased with the childrens' performance.

"The swimmers have made some great progress," she said.

"They have demonstrated a range of competencies in the water and they always give 100%.

"The lessons are so beneficial for children and parents alike. It gives the swimmers a relaxed and safe environment to swim in"

Leisure World is now taking applications for new entrants into their swimming lessons for children with disabilities.

The lessons are held in the Wave Pool and parents or carers accompany children into the water for the lesson.

For more information, or to apply for a place on the scheme, contact Dave Brown or Leanne Connelly on 606715 or visit www.bridlingtonleisure world.co.uk for a downloadable application form.
