Wind farm gets go ahead after winning appeal

NINE wind turbines will be built close to the cliff top at Fraisthorpe after a planning inspector allowed an appeal from developers.

TCI Renewables had appealed to the planning inspectorate after East Riding of Yorkshire Council had taken longer than the statutory eight week period to make a decision on their application to build the 420ft-to-blade-tip turbines.

Now planning permission has been granted by inspector Ken Barton in a report released on Tuesday.

Anti-wind farm campaigner David Hinde, of Bempton, said: “This is a whitewash of a report, unbelievably crass, with approval given with no thought for tourism and the many visitors to the area, local residents or people living just 750 metres or less from the turbines.

“The detrimental impact is grossly understated. In my opinion the local commmunity have been walked over and no community fund benefits guaranteed by the inspector.

“The community should be very, very angry about this decision and the way it has been made.”

More than 60 members of the public – including world famous artist David Hockney – as well as a legal team from East Riding of Yorkshire Council, argued against the plans at a public inquiry held in November.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s planning committee refused the plans, and more than 360 residents lodged objections.

Bridlington Town Council, Carnaby Parish Council and Barmston and Fraisthorpe Parish Council also recommended refusal.

TCI Renewables say the proposed wind farm could generate enough clean electricity for around 11,800 homes and could save some 22,300 tonnes of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere each year.
