A crane was needed to move a 40ft tree which had fallen into two houses in Bridlington in high winds on Wednesday evening.
Council workers had been toiling all morning to remove branches, until a crane turned up at lunchtime to pull the huge trunk off the buildings on North Back Lane.
Chains were attached, and the tree was moved onto the road to be chopped up and removed.
It is believed that nobody was in the two properties when the tree fell on Wednesday night at around 9.15pm.
A neighbour, Geoffrey Hall, said that he heard a rumble “a bit like thunder” before his daughter Julie Burnell, who lives in the house between Mr Hall and the affected properties, knocked on his door to tell him the tree had fallen.
