Turn the tide on beach litter

LOCAL people are being urged to turn the tide on litter and get involved in a nationwide scheme by tidying up one of Bridlington's beaches.

As part of Beachwatch 2008, run by the Marine Conservation Society, community wardens are appealing for volunteers to take part in the event which aims to remove litter and protect wildlife from death and maiming.

The clean-up runs over the weekend of Saturday, September 20 and will go from the North Beach to the harbour and onto the chalets on the south side.

Each day starts at 12.30pm and finishes at 2.30pm.

The group will meet at Garrison Square near the harbour where litter pickers will be given a brief and bags to dispose of rubbish in.

Anyone under the age of 17 will need to fill out a parental consent form before taking part.

Anyone interested in taking part can register online at www.adoptaeach.org.uk or telephone 01989 567807.
