Theft from handbag
A WOMAN purse thief struck outside a seafront cafe.
A 66-year-old woman and her son were sitting on a bench outside Seaside Snacks, in Harbour Road, Bridling-ton, at noon last Sunday.
The woman put her handbag on the floor between her feet while they were eating fish and chips.
A woman came and sat next to them for a while, then left.
When the 66-year-old and her son went to leave, she noticed her bag was where the stranger had been sitting and her purse had been stolen.
Police are warning all visitors and locals to keep their bags and purses safe and in sight at all times. They are seeking information about the theft and want anyone who saw the woman or noticed anything suspicious at the time to contact them.
The purse is described as black with a gold motif and a plastic pattern in red, green and blue around the edge.
