Teenager in cliff fall

A TEENAGER was badly injured when he slipped while climbing cliffs at Flamborough's North Landing last Saturday.

An 18-year-old man was climbing the cliffs in the early evening, when he became stuck.

He fell into the water below, breaking a leg and injuring an ankle.

Bridlington and Flamborough Coastguard Rescue teams were despatched to help in the rescue of the man, who had managed to pull himself on to the beach.

After being assessed on the beach it was decided the man would be air-lifted to Scarborough Hospital for further treatment.

He was taken by the Sea King Helicopter from RAF Leconfield.

A spokesperson from the Coastguard said: "The man got into difficulty whilst climbing the cliffs, and was lucky that his fall was not worse.

"The accident brings attention to the fact that climbing on the cliffs along our coastline is not safe, and we urge people to ensure they take safe marked routes to and from the beaches."
